Pedro’s Story
Pedro grew up in Mexico with his parents and 10 siblings. They lived in Sinaloa where Pedro worked on a farm instead of going to school. He learned carpentry - how to make things from wood. Pedro’s dad was a musician and played bass in a band. He started teaching Pedro about music from a young age. Pedro said, "I liked to sing and wanted to learn the guitar, but couldn't afford one. I made one in the carpenter shop and played it in our little town orchestra, which we called La Rabia (The Fury).” By the time Pedro was a teenager, he also learned how to play violin, trumpet, and percussion!
A few years later, he moved to Mexico City with his wife. She thought Pedro could become famous if he played his songs on the radio. His songs became very popular! Pedro recorded more than 350 songs and became known for his lovely singing voice. Pedro’s smooth and gentle singing style influenced other Mexican singers.
But music wasn’t the only thing Pedro did - he had many interests and hobbies! Pedro was an actor in 62 movies. He exercised every day, and woke up at 5 in the morning to go running, paddling in the lake, and lifting weights. Pedro played baseball and practiced boxing. Pedro even knew how to fly planes. Because he didn’t attend school as a kid, he learned how to read and write when he was an adult.
He was one of the most famous people in Mexico of all time, and today people still love to listen to his music.
