Every musician has a story.
In Rizzie’s music classes for young children, songs from around the world are featured regularly, but Rizzie wanted to dive deeper with students and families.
After a lot of searching, Rizzie was disappointed to learn that there are very few easily accessible resources available for children to learn about a variety of musicians, see their faces, and hear examples of their music. So Rizzie set out to create a space that shines a light on the wonderfully diverse musicians of our planet. Using real quotes, songs, and videos from music artists, we can share a piece of their story and expand children’s horizons for musical role models.
Rizzie Vacketta
Early Childhood Music Educator, JAMS Research and Biographies
One of the things Rizzie loves most is learning, and she’s been learning about music since childhood. Rizzie is a multi-instrumentalist - she enjoys playing saxophone, guitar, ukulele, piano, and of course, singing - and has a B.A. in music therapy from Michigan State University. She has performed across the United States, Europe, and Mexico.
As an early childhood music educator, Rizzie specifically seeks to engage the youngest learners and their caregivers in an informal way that encourages lifelong exploration with plenty of laughter along the way.
Chris “Krees” Borbon
Director of Media, Graphic Designer, Illustrator
Krees creates original musician artwork and coloring pages for JAMS. In addition to the visual arts, he has been playing music for so long that he doesn’t even remember when he started! There was always a guitar laying around the house because his dad played in bands. When he was 12, Krees got his first drum kit and he’s been jamming ever since. You’ll usually see him playing drums with reggae band The Capsouls, but he’s also played guitar, bass, piano, trumpet, and trombone.
